Let’s start off with the basics.
Pampers Swaddlers Diapers
– I love these! The blue line is amazing, lets me know when to change him and through his long nights of sleeping they hold up excellently. They say they can take about 12 hours of urine but don’t push it much past 8 hours. At least not until they are older with larger bladders, when they are peeing every 15-30 mins 8 hours is the max, i’ve delt with enough soggy diapers. For poop they are okay, any diaper you get runs the issue of leakage, these are no different, just gotta deal with it and move on haha.
BOB Car Seat & Stroller
– I was sold on this before I got mine because my sister had one for my niece. It’s manoeuvres beautifully in snow, on ice, in gravel, and on grass, and living in Labrador, I have had experience on all surfaces. The car seat easily clips onto the stroller and when its time to just use the stroller the car seat adaptors come right off with ease. I’ll be keeping these two items around for my next without a doubt, and I’d say I’ll even upgrade to the double stroller. The stroller is durable and allows one to lower down the back on the seat so the child can lye completely flat to get that much needed nap when out in public and a must have accessory for this stroller is the cup holder, until you actually have a baby you don’t realize how much you’re going to want those cup holders.
I use it for my keys, drinks, phone, anything small enough to fit there I will put in there haha. Great for when your baby gets older and wants snacks, just put their snack cups and sippy cups in the cup holder for easy access when out shopping in the mall or on walks.
Luckily I have had the pleasure of using 3 different types of swings at varying price ranges. First up, and most expensive is the 4Moms Mamaroo.
This swing was actually designed by engineers who studied the way a mother moves and put it into a swing. It has 5 different swing motions (Ocean wave, Kangaroo, Car Ride, Rock-a-Bye, and tree swing) along with 5 speed settings, built in music along with audio input so you can hook up your iphone/ipad/ipod ect. The balls on top have two sides, multi coloured and black and white so you can switch them out so your child doesn’t get bored looking at the same old stuff.
Second is the Graco Duo 2in1 Swing and Bouncer
This swing only has one motion in one direction at varying speeds and like the mamaroo it has built in music. The thing that sets this swing apart from the others is that the seat is removable and can be used as a bouncer. The seat itself also has a vibrate feature so it can help calm that fussy baby. The removable snack tray on the swing provides a play area for babies as they grow and eventually will and can be used as an eating surface. By purchasing this swing parents are getting two essential baby items in one, which makes this swing well worth the cost.
Finally we have the cradle and swing, this one was gifted to us from another family.
The cradle and swing comes with a play tray, plays music, and can swing in two directions, front to back and side to side. This particular swing has been upgraded to include a softer surface for babies and the dangling toys are slightly closer to the baby.
Personally I like the first two. The mamaroo is amazing, if you’re a techy you will like this swing and so will your baby. The variety of motions available ensures that your baby will like at least one of these motions and when you just can’t soothe your baby you need something that can. The bright colours of the Mamaroo grab the baby’s attention and since it can be adjusted to have the baby sitting up or lying down it can serve as a seat as they grow. The graco swing was my saviour when Ethan had stomach issues, the swinging motion is more violent than some other swings and it is perfect for those fussy babies who just need that motion to calm down.
Dr. Browns Bottles and Bottle Sterilizer
Having a sister who had a baby a year before me really helped with my choices on most things, especially bottles. Now Dr. Browns bottles are expensive but for a good reason, they are scientifically designed to help reduce the amount of air your baby is getting into their digestion from their formula. The blue insert takes the air out of the formula through some scientific magic. All I know is it is the #1 recommended bottle for babies with colic issues and gas issues. The sterilizer is just a sterilizer and is necessary for all bottles unless you want to spend hours boiling bottles in a pot, and because noone wants to do that, we buy microwavable sterilizers haha.
